Profile:
Dr Axel Volkery joined IEEP in October 2010 after previous employment as a policy and scenario analyst at the European Environment Agency, the German Advisory Council on the Environment and the Environmental Policy Research Centre Berlin. He has extensive experience in conducting integrated environmental assessments and policy appraisals at the European and national level, including being a lead author for the 2010 State of the Environment and Outlook Report of the European Environment Agency. Axel has worked and published widely on strategies and instruments to foster policy integration and policy coherence in OECD countries, the comparison of sustainability strategies and approaches to strengthen the environmental dimension of regulatory impact assessment. He has co-authored ex-ante and ex-post assessments in a wide range of policy fields including climate change and energy, transport and chemical policy and has been involved in a number of scenario-building exercises at the European level. Axel has managed grants from the European Commission, the European Environment Agency and diverse European and national research foundations and NGOs. He holds a diploma and a PhD in Political Sciences from Free University of Berlin.
